BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Want to know more about the candidates running for Berkeley Heights Township Council? Each week leading to the November 7 election, the candidates running for Berkeley Heights Township Council will answer question(s) that will be run in a series on TAPinto Berkeley Heights.

The four candidates running for the two three-year seats are Margaret Illis (D), Bill Machado (D), Tom Maciejewski (R), and Steve Mondragon.

Get to Know Margaret Illis (D) Who is Seeking Election for Berkeley Heights Township Council.

Over the last 30 years my husband Bill and I have lived in Berkeley Heights, where we raised four children.  During that time I have been and involved member of our community.

I am currently a member of the Berkeley Heights Planning Board and previously served on the Historic Preservation Committee. As a frequent attendee and contributor during Town Council and Board of Education meetings, I advocate for transparency in government and to ensure all voices are heard. In 2019, I was honored to receive the Berkeley Heights Good Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America, Patriots Path Council, for my many services to the community including co-chairing Relay For Life and volunteering with the Berkeley Heights Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops. I had a career in enterprise software design before leaving in 2014 to focus on my family and community.

I am running for Town Council because I want to bring a stronger focus on long-term planning, especially concerning our infrastructure and greenspace to support effective, transparent government for all residents. I pledge to work for the good of our town and am confident my collaborative style can bring us together to address issues and positively impact our community.
