MORRISTOWN, NJ - The community was invited to attend Morristown High School band's spring concert Wednesday, May, 17. The concert will feature the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. Mr. Gallagher, the Band Director at Morristown High School, led the students in the majority of songs however, Jack Powers, a student teacher from Montclair University conducted Foundry.
The Symphonic Band played three songs; Rough Riders, Mystery on Mena Mountain, and Foundry. The Wind Ensemble played two songs; Rise to Early and Give Us This Day.
According to David Gallagher, MHS Director of Bands, this concert was unique because the band premiered a brand new piece for wind ensemble, Rise To Earlywritten by local composer Peter Sciaino. The pience was commissioned by the Morris Educational Foundation.
Rise to Early was composed by Peter Sciaino, who has been published with Alfred Music, C.L. Barnhouse Company, C. Alan Publications, Carl Fischer Music, Excelcia Music Publishing, RWS Music Company and Wingert-Jones Publications in the United States and Hafabra Music in Europe. Sciaino is also an instrumental teacher at Whippany Park High School for the past 25 years. He directs both concert band and jazz ensemble while co-directing the marching band and teaching AP Music Theory.
Sciaino said, “I have been writing professionally for over 40 years. I enjoy writing different styles to fit school groups.”
Whippany Park, Randolph, Morristown and Livingston are just a few of the school districts who have used his work.
