ROXBURY, NJ - A 4-run fourth inning set the tone in Roxbury High School baseball’s 10-6 win over Bloomfield on Thursday.
The Gaels traveled to Bloomfield to take on the Bengals, looking for their fourth consecutive win. Head Coach Greg Trotter was looking for results similar to Wednesday’s comeback victory at Montville, and his team did not disappoint.
Roxbury ended up with ten runs on ten hits. Junior Colin Richter was all over the field, scoring three runs, including an opposite-field homer over the 350-feet sign in left field.
The biggest inning for Roxbury came in the fourth, as nine players came to bat. The 4-run inning was set up in large part by Bloomfield’s fielding errors. Besides Richter’s home run, Roxbury would score three more times, all on errors from Bloomfield. The Bengals ended up with six errors in the game.
After sophomore Kyle Phillips pitched an inning to start the game, freshman Colin Donnelly held his own on the mound. Donnelly pitched four innings in relief to get the win, allowing three runs in his 70-pitch afternoon. Senior Anthony Cirella pitched the last two innings for Roxbury, allowing three runs.
Senior Justin Ford achieved a milestone in Thursday's victory after hitting a double for his 100th career high school hit. He was congratulated by his teammates in the dugout, and after the game with a banner.
With the fourth win in a row, Roxbury improved to 11-12 on the season. The regular season finale at home against Seton Hall Prep is scheduled for May 23 at 4 p.m.
