Morristown, NJ —  During Morristown’s regular town council meeting three residents joined the chamber floor during the public hearing.

One resident spoke about his concern around scooter usage in town and the safety issues it poses. In response, Mayor Dougherty said he has seen adults riding electric bicycles at high speeds. The police chief and public safety director will let their force know to remind adults that they must ride on the street not the sidewalk for pedestrian safety.

A resident representing the Morristown Shade Tree Commission thanked Councilmember David Silva during the public hearing for his suggestion to make tree signage bilingual. The new signs which will be in English and Spanish will be put up in early May.

Mayor Dougherty shared upcoming events during his report: On April 1 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. a mobile DMV unit will be in the town hall lot and on April 3 a presentation on preventing common scams will be given at the senior center.

Five resolutions were adopted unanimously during Tuesday evenings meeting. The council added a last minute resolution during the meeting which was discussed in a closed session. R-64-2024 effectively terminates the United States Postal Service contract for the purchase of 1 Morris Street.

Additional matters included the approval of a liquor license extension for the Iron Bar to include its sidewalk cafe.
