MORRISTOWN, NJ – Joey Viola, an employee of the Morristown Parking Authority, has raised over $10,000 for juvenile diabetes research. The Commissioners of the Parking Authority of the Town of Morristown has proudly acknowledged Viola for his "outstanding dedication to philanthropy". 

Viola established the Inaugural Leonard P. Pergentile 8-Ball Invitational in memory of his late friend Leonard P. Pergentile. The event acknowledged Pergentile's lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes, which led to Pergentile's death on March 24, 2024.

Viola competed with a pool team based out of Morristown at competited at the 2023 American Poolplayers Association World Championship in Las Vegas. 

The funds generated by the event will be donated to the JDRF, previously known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in Leonard’s name. This global organization is dedicated to funding crucial research into type 1 diabetes (TID) and improving the lives of those affected by the condition.

During the Morristown Women in Business Network event on March 25, Jaime and Michele Moore, owners of Tavern off the Green, highlighted Viola's recent fundraising achievements while accepting a Community Award. Recognizing the significance of Viola’s contributions, the Board of Commissioners moved to commend him during the April 17th Board Meeting.

“We are sad for Joey Viola’s loss of a friend but so proud of his work of keeping Leonard’s memory alive through charitable giving,” Commissioner Cary Lloyd.
