Description

ROXBURY, NJ - Law enforcement officials on Friday performed a "sweep" of Roxbury High School in response to a threat sent to the school in the U.S. Mail, according to officials.

They said the inspection found nothing, but Roxbury police plan to be at the school next week as a precautionary measure. The school will not be open on April 22, a pre-scheduled closure related to an unused snow day.

Roxbury Schools Superintendent Frank Santora said police were called "to assess the situation" as soon as the threatening letter was received Friday afternoon.

"While it was determined that the threat was not credible, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Postal Inspector, the Department of Homeland Security and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office were notified," he said. "In order to ensure the safety of all students and staff, the Morris County Sheriff's Office conducted a sweep of the building. This sweep resulted in the determination that all is safe and secure at Roxbury High School."

In a separate statement, Roxbury High School Principal Dominick Miller stressed that the school administration prioritizes the well-being of those who study and work at the school. "Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority," Miller wrote. "Thank you for your time. Have a great weekend, and remember, every day is a great day to be a Gael!"

Neither he nor Santora specified details about the nature of the threat.
