Upcoming Daily Lane Closures on I-80 Eastbound in Warren County for Retaining Wall Repairs

I-80 eastbound daily right lane closures beginning Monday in Hardwick and Knowlton, Warren County Closures necessary for the next several months to repair the retaining wall.

NORTHERN NEW JERSEY – Starting April 1, motorists traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 through Hardwick and Knowlton in Warren County can expect daily right lane closures, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced today.

The closures, necessary for retaining wall repairs, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, extending into the summer of 2024.

The affected segment stretches from milepost 0.5, just past the exit ramp to River Road in Hardwick, to milepost 1.5, before the Weigh Station/U-turn in Knowlton. While one lane will remain open to traffic, drivers are urged to slow down and proceed with caution in the work zone. The schedule is subject to adjustments based on weather or other unforeseen factors.

This construction initiative coincides with NJDOT's 2024 Pothole Campaign, which kicked off on March 4. In a safety message, Acting Commissioner Fran O’Connor highlighted the department's commitment to maintaining the state’s roads in good repair, emphasizing the importance of addressing potholes promptly and efficiently.

To facilitate these repairs, NJDOT crews may need to close travel lanes during daytime hours, primarily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., to avoid peak traffic times. Motorists are reminded of New Jersey’s Move Over law, which requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching stationary emergency or service vehicles on the roadside.

NJDOT encourages the public to report potholes on state highways either by calling 1-800-POTHOLE or using a new online mapping tool that allows for precise location reporting. For potholes on county roads, reports should be directed to the appropriate local authority.

For updates on this and other construction activities, as well as real-time travel information, motorists can visit NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org

The department aims to complete these repairs with minimal disruption and appreciates the public’s cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines during this period.
